Two Drawing Workshops over One Weekend!

28th and 29th April, 2018

9am – 4pm both days

Drawing 1    Let’s Get Started!

Drawing 2   The Next Step – Revealing Form, Creating Depth.

Would you like to learn to draw but don’t have time for a weekly commitment, or just unsure if you have the talent to draw?  Then this is the workshop for you!!

First up, let me assure you, you can learn to draw!

In fact, drawing is for everyone… there is no prerequisite amount of talent needed to gain the skills needed to begin a journey that will provide a lifetime of enjoyment.

I am passionate about helping people to get started and/or further along in their art practise, and believe the best way is to start right at the beginning with the fundamentals and build from there.

In fact, right from the start we take the time to talk about our tools of trade, how to set yourself up and even how to hold a pencil!

No question is too silly or basic… I really want you to come away from these workshops with a good understanding of how to go about getting an image down on paper.

Of course, it may take a bit of practise before you reach your full potential, but having good instruction from the start is invaluable and saves a lot of wasted time searching around for the right information.

Drawing 1 and 2 are the first of a series of workshops designed to get you started and/or improve your drawing skills in a logical and easy to understand way.  My aim is to give you the best opportunity to learn without information overload.

Drawing really is the foundation of all art practise!

Choose to do just one workshop, or both for a weekend of creative fun and maximum benefit.

Drawing 1  Let’s Get Started!

Drawing 1 – Let’s Get Started is the first in a series of one day workshops and is the perfect place for the beginner (or anyone needing a refresher) to start.

First up we address the biggest block of all to being able to draw well… learning to ‘see’ like an artist!  Through a series of exercises we will explore what seeing like an artist actually means and why it is an important skill for being able to draw well.

We will also take a look at how to set up and get started, as well as discuss the variety of media available to us, though we will be working with pencil and if time permits, charcoal.

Once you have these concepts under your belt you will be well on your way to being able to render what you ‘see’ and not what you ‘think’ you see!

Drawing really is the foundation of any artistic endeavour and the skills and principles learnt in this class will hold you in good stead no matter what your artistic direction later on.

Subsequent workshops in this series will build on from these foundational skills and lead us into ever more exciting explorations of drawing.

Drawing 2  The Next Step – Revealing Form and Creating Depth.

Following on from the skills learnt in the first workshop (Drawing 1- Let’s Get Started!), this workshop will focus on bringing your drawings to life.

Tone and the role it plays in creating depth and 3 dimensionality in your work is explored along with other important concepts such as the effects of light, importance of edges, expression through line quality and mark making, methods of hatching/blending and more.

We will also take a look at a number of issues that confront artists including the plethora of media and materials available to us… though we will be working with pencil (and charcoal and conte if time permits).

Drawing really is the foundation of any artistic endeavour and the skills and principles learnt in this class will also directly apply to any of the visual arts disciplines.

Subsequent workshops in this series will build on from these foundational skills and lead us into ever more exciting explorations of drawing.

It is my aim to provide a time effective alternative to weekly classes and to show you that learning to draw can be a lot of fun.
