Time:       10am – 4pm

Cost:        $440

What to Bring…

Lunch – Cafe’s and shops are nearby.  I usually recommend it’s easier to bring something with you so you have time to relax in the lunch break.  The venue has a full kitchen, so a fridge and a microwave are available.

Charcoal – a selection of vine and compressed

A3 Sketchbook

Acrylic Paint – White is essential.  A selection of colours is optional.

Brushes – Any brush suitable for acrylic painting, a variety of sizes.  At least one larger brush.  Doesn’t matter if it’s filbert, flat or round.

Acrylic Soft Gel Medium

Palette or containers for mixing washes  (plastic plates work well)

Rag or paper towel

2 drop sheets – to protect floor and tables

Favourite object and/or photo reference (see note)

*Please note that for this workshop it’s not essential to buy artist quality.  The focus will be on allowing ourselves to experiment and it’s hard to let yourself do that if you’re worrying about using expensive materials!  Monte Marte or similar will be fine.  After the workshop, if you want to continue a particular technique, I would encourage you to use artist quality to ensure the longevity of your work.

** Objects/Photo Reference – Optional

Although this is optional I highly recommend bringing some of your own references.

Through experience I’ve found it more meaningful to create work from personal references.

Objects can be literally anything!  Just something that means something to you.

Photos can also be anything but landscape, streetscape and interiors work well.

If you are unsure if something is suitable feel free to call me on 0410547943.  And of course, I will have a selection on hand anyway.

What’s included….

Easel

Drawing Board

Bulldog Clips

Exploring Charcoal

This two day workshop is really two workshops in one – Drawing technique and Experimental Drawing, and is suitable for all levels, beginners to advanced.

In this workshop, beginners will have basic drawing skills covered, whilst the more experienced in the group will have the opportunity to practise and hone their skills in observational drawing.

The primary focus of the weekend for all, will be to discover what’s possible with charcoal, moving from a traditional to an experimental approach by combining charcoal with acrylic paint and soft gel medium.

During the workshop you will produce a number of drawings which will prepare you for a final work on the second day.

You will be working from a variety of reference material and subjects.  Favourite objects and or photographic reference.  This means you get the experience of working from life and/or photos.  Subject matter is therefore varied as well and you can choose which to base your final work around.

By the end of the weekend you will be sure to have sharpened your observational skills, honed your charcoal technique and discovered new ways to make interesting drawings… and above all… had fun!!

Please note I am unable to give a refund in the event you are unable to attend due to covid with less than one weeks notice unless I have a waiting list for that workshop. However, I am happy to transfer your booking to someone else, give you a voucher for use in another class or workshop (can also be used for private tutoring or artwork) or you may be able to participate via zoom.

In the event that the workshop is cancelled due to lack of numbers you will receive either a full refund or a voucher (your choice).

In the event of Jenny having Covid or being a close contact the workshop will be rescheduled. If this is not suitable for you, you will be offered a choice of refund or a voucher.
