Experimental Drawing – Jervis Bay

Who is this workshop for?

Beginners to Intermediate… really just everyone!

In this workshop our focus will be on opening ourselves to new ideas and ways of working, in order to gain or strengthen our drawing skills and perhaps find new direction in our work… while having fun in the process!

I’ve always been a passionate believer that good drawing skills underpin all art… no matter the ‘style’.   Knowledge of the basic principles will set you on the right path for successful art making.

So let me take you on a journey through a series of exercises that will make learning to draw more of a creative adventure into possibility.

Our day will start in the studio where I will introduce you to some of the principles and ideas we will be exploring.  Our media for the day will be pencil and charcoal, though other media may be introduced.

Following morning tea in the garden, you will have the choice of working outside in the garden or from references in the studio.  I will have a selection of nature objects as well as images for you to work from if you choose.  Or you can bring along some of your own.

Once we have worked through a series of exercises our focus for the afternoon will be on creating a final work based on the reference material we gathered during the morning.

This workshop is an opportunity to start or expand your art journey with others who are like-minded.  The exercises are easy and I will guide you every step of the way.  If you are new to art the workshop will give you a great starting point, and if you are already on your way, you will be encouraged to step outside your comfort zone, and all of us will develop new ways of seeing and of approaching the problems of drawing.

I hope you will join me.

Location… this workshop will be held in my studio in Jervis Bay, NSW.  We also have a beautiful garden to enjoy during the breaks and it’s a very short walk to the shores of St Georges Basin.  The studio is insulated and airconditioned for your comfort should the weather not be kind…so no need to worry about heat or cold!  Jervis Bay is approximately 2.5hrs south of Sydney and is absolutely stunning!  There is an abundance of accommodation available locally to suit most budgets, making it a perfect opportunity to tack a few extra days on to your workshop and take a short break (you might even test out your new skills in our beautiful landscape!).
