Working with Green – Oil and Acrylic Painting

So you love painting landscapes.

You’ve decided on a scene that has captivated you so much you just have to paint it!

But wait!

Whoa… look at all that green!

Where do you even begin?

When you look at pretty much any scene that involves vegetation it’s easy to be overwhelmed by the amount of green and the subtle variations within it.

Often our paintings can start looking very unnatural simply because our greens just aren’t quite right or they don’t have the variety that’s required.

And that’s what this workshop is all about – taking the confusion out of green and making our paintings look more natural.

It should be noted here, that although we are primarily focused on green within the landscape in this workshop, the ability to mix and modify green as needed is actually a valuable skill you will use in any painting where green is found… even in a portrait!

So here’s a brief rundown on what we will cover over the 2 days…

Day 1

Learning to see and make sense of green within a complex scene

Basic colour theory

Making green pop!

Subduing green – how to not let it take over!

Exercises to consolidate our learning

Using your own reference, analyse and mix greens accordingly

Blocking in your own painting

Day 2

Review of prev day.

Continuing with your painting.

Troubleshooting

Discussion and assistance as required.

Both days will include demonstrations.

So if you’ve had enough of greens being the bane of your existence and would like to elevate your art by making them play nice within your work…come along and I promise your trouble with green will be a thing of the past!

Location… this workshop will be held in the beautiful south coast town of Berry, which is approximately 2 hours from Sydney.  The village is a favourite weekend destination for many with it’s rolling green hills, fabulous food and wine and proximity to many of the Shoalhavens pristine beaches, bushwalks and other villages to explore.  There is plenty of accommodation nearby to suit a range of budgets.

The Main Hall is situated behind the Berry Uniting Church.  It’s location in Albert Street is right in the heart of the village, so just a short stroll for cafes and shops.  Plenty of off-street parking is available (entrance via North Street).
